What a scam wallet looks like
A fake crypto wallet may be a lookalike app, a browser extension, a “connect wallet” phishing page, or a web “wallet” that asks you to enter a seed phrase to “sync” or “unlock” funds. Once the seed is shared, the balance can be drained in minutes.
Other scam wallet patterns never steal the seed: they simply display a deposit address belonging to the fraud ring while showing fabricated balances in a dashboard.
Digital forensics and blockchain analysis
Digital forensics on a wallet case often means preserving device artifacts, phishing URLs, and chat logs. Blockchain analysis then maps where deposited coins moved — hop addresses, mixers, or exchange deposit clusters. That trail can support a police report, civil claim, or exchange freeze request when timing allows.
Red flags
- Any site that asks for your 12/24-word seed to “verify” ownership.
- Apps sideloaded from Telegram links rather than official stores.
- Customer support that refuses video calls and pushes urgency.

¿La extensión del navegador era un scam wallet?
Primera vez con crypto. Una extensión pedía ‘sincronizar’ con la frase semilla. No la puse. ¿Sigo en riesgo o solo si la escribí?
Did I just use a fake crypto wallet?
Downloaded a ‘wallet’ from a link in Discord to claim an airdrop. It asked for my 12 words to ‘import.’ I stopped halfway. Is that enough to call it a scam wallet or should I still move funds from my real wallet?
Seed phrase ingevuld — €19.500 weg binnen minuten

My mistake: trusted a dashboard wallet. Blockchain analysis shows my USDT went to a cluster I’ve never controlled. About CAD 31,000. Ready to talk through options carefully with counsel who will look at the tx trail.
